Marble & Fig is a classic riad done with a lighter, more modern hand: cool tadelakt walls, a central courtyard shaded by an ancient fig, and a fountain whose trickle is the loudest thing you will hear inside. The medina's chaos is a few turns away, but behind the studded door the temperature and the volume both drop by half.
There are eleven rooms over two floors and a rooftop that earns its keep — breakfast in the shade of the morning, mint tea and the call to prayer at dusk, the Atlas Mountains just visible on a clear day. The staff are the real asset: they arranged a hammam, a food walk and an airport transfer without fuss, and steered us away from the tourist traps around the square.
Rooms vary in size and light — a few are quite snug — so it is worth asking for one of the larger courtyard rooms. But as an affordable, atmospheric and genuinely helpful base for a first trip to Marrakech, Marble & Fig is an easy recommendation.
